Dr. Naomi Whelan, ND
I completed my undergraduate degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with high honours in 2006. I learned how the body develops, adapts and functions as a system. I graduated with a deep appreciation of the complexity and adaptability of living organisms. This background, along with my beliefs surrounding health and wellness, led me to explore Naturopathic Medicine as a career. I completed my Naturopathic Medicine Diploma at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in British Columbia. During my clinical rotations at BINM, I treated eczema, acne, chronic and acute pain, weight loss, stress, thyroid conditions, food allergies, menstrual irregularities, fertility issues, athletic enhancement, chronic fatigue, anemia, anxiety, depression, immune deficiencies, infections, and many other conditions. After 4 wonderful years in BC I am excited to be home in Saskatoon to embark on the next chapter of my life.
One of the main philosophies of Naturopathic Medicine is that the body has an inherent ability to heal. I believe that well-being is achieved by removing the obstacles to healing and creating an environment that increases vitality. As a naturopathic doctor, I treat the whole person, look for the underlying cause of disease, and work to prevent future health problems.
Naturopathic medicine is for everyone! Often patients are prompted to seek care due to nagging pain or a chronic condition that is not improving. However, patients of any age or health status can benefit from Naturopathic care. By taking the time to listen, deciphering lab values, performing a thorough history and physical exam we can address the root cause of disease or discomfort. I utilize botanical medicine, homeopathy, acupuncture, Asian medicine, physical medicine, nutrition, lifestyle counselling and Bowen therapy to design a personalized treatment plan for each patient.
