Holiday Survival Tips

The next time you will receive a message from us here at True Potential, Christmas will have come and gone…

Leading into the holidays, we at True Potential want to encourage you to find sustainable ways to stay true to your path of self care.  It doesn’t take much to stay focused, and yet it also doesn’t take too many indulgences to temporarily throw you off course.

Holiday Survival Tips

So here are just a few tips to help you succeed:

  1. Never show up at a party or gathering feeling hungry.   A protein shake just before heading out the door and a tall glass of water will fill you up just enough that you will be able to make objective decisions about indulgences rather than feeling out of control around food and drinks because you are over- hungry.
  2. Never show up empty handed.  Whether you are bringing an appetizer or beverage or side dish, by preparing something that fits your typical food plan, no matter what else is being served, you will have something to eat and drink.
  3. Choose those one or two seasonal treats that you absolutely don’t want to miss out on.  If you absolutely can NOT say no to Aunt Bertha’s butter tarts, then whole heartedly enjoy, knowing that you are saying yes to butter tarts and no to the other 15 dainties on the plate because you don’t LOVE them as much.
  4. Stay consistent with your probiotics over the holidays, and bump up your Vitamin C.  Eating sugar depletes Vitamin C in your body, and between the close quarters we find ourselves in over the holidays and the food and cheer, we put our immune systems into overload.  No need to be laid up on December 27 with a cold or upset gut.
  5. Take this time to rest, connect with loved ones, and rejuvenate.
