  5. Movement

If you’re wanting to adopt practices to sustain and enhance wellbeing, by positively contributing to balance and homeostasis, but are unsure where to start, or are overwhelmed with information overload – this may be the blogpost for you!

Following, are the five foundational elements that I have personally adopted as my gauge for decision making and creating balance in life. When I consider these elements in my daily actions and choices I am supporting balance in my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

1. Nature

Getting out of the manmade world and into nature is an important part of leading a balanced life. We are a part of nature and the forces that sustain and drive nature are the same forces that sustain and drive our lives. Get outside with your feet on the ground, take in some deep breaths and watch how the body synchronizes with the peace of Mother Nature.

2. Connection

Connecting with other people contributes to a feeling of belonging. Experiencing connection and belonging contributes significantly to mental and emotional well-being.

3. Nutrition

Nutrition is a category that is not limited to diet. We consume many things in the course of a day, including tv, Netflix, radio, books, podcasts, and social media to name a few. We are also nourished (or not) by our relationships, friendships, and our work. It’s possible to consider everything that comes into your consciousness through your senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing) as providing nourishment to the many faceted parts of our lives.

4. Reset

Rest includes both nighttime slumbers and the way life is lived during the day. We live in a culture that glorifies ‘busy’ but many moments can be found throughout a day that provide opportunity for rest, a slow blink of the eyes, a deep breath, a moment of stillness – each of these opportunities to slow down, to experience our bodies and our surroundings add up and contribute to a well balanced life.

5. Movement

Our bodies are created to move and our bodies thrive on movement. Movement doesn’t have to be partitioned off as ‘exercise’ with special time allotted for getting the body moving. Think about the ways that you can layer movement into your day. Take the stairs, park further away from work, dance, play, pick berries, sit on the floor instead of the couch, find ways to move your body throughout the day!

Experience More Joy and Ease

When I consider these five elements in my daily life I experience more joy and ease. If you’re looking for improved balance in life and enhanced states of health these elements may prove to be a good foundation for you too. Try it out and see!

What does it mean to be in balance?

Good balance means good expression of health leading to feelings of well-being. Balance is not limited however to only our physical bodies, for there is much more to being human than only flesh and bones.

What does Homeostasis mean?

Homeostasis is the term used to describe the perfect balance of action and reaction within the physical body – the balance that keeps our physical systems working efficiently and in congruency with one another.
