Cold and flu season is upon us but don’t let all the hype scare you – there is plenty you can do to keep yourself healthy and flu-free all year round.

Why do so many people get sick between November and January?

Well there are plenty of theories, but the one we like to focus on here at True Potential is this is the time of year when we all tend to be at our least healthy.  Starting with Hallowe’en, carrying through Thanksgiving, and into Christmas and New Years, most of us are eating more sweets than we would otherwise and many of us are busy, busy, busy getting ready for those holidays.  Poor eating combined with stress and less restful sleep is a recipe for decreased immune function and increased susceptibility to colds and flus.

Now that the holidays have passed, most of us are getting back into our regular routines, so here are some cold and flu season tips.  This is a great time to dump the sugary sweets and get back to eating your fruits and veggies.  When settling into a routine, consider adding an activity that will help you manage stress better in the coming months.  Whether it’s going for a walk (indoors or outdoors), taking up a new hobby, or debriefing with a friend, aim to make it a part of your regular week so you have that outlet to look forward to.  Couple these things with 8 hours of sleep every night and you will have done much to boost your immune function and guard against getting sick.

Having trouble getting the sugar out of your diet?
