The Power of Turmeric
My quest to bulletproof everything continues. I have turned my attention to the very popular “golden milk” also known as turmeric tea. Turmeric, in addition to being a cooking spice, also has many health benefits. Turmeric is a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant so it is a great herb to use for any kind of pain – whether it be chronic pain, muscle injuries, headaches, or menstrual cramps. It is also a great digestive tonic, gently stimulating regular digestive function while also soothing irritation, nausea, or indigestion.
Bulletproof Tumeric Tea/Golden Milk is a great way to get turmeric into your diet. Rather than adding another pil to your supplement regime, here is a way to use your food as medicine. And by bulletproofing the tea, we are adding a host of additional benefits such as healthy fats and extra protein. The fats in the tea, along with the pinch of black pepper, will also increase the absorption of turmeric into your body.
So drink up, enjoy, and know you are doing your body a whole lot of good!
Bulletproof Turmeric Tea/ Golden Milk Ingredients
- 1 cup milk replacement (I use almond or coconut) –water also works if you prefer a less rich taste
- 1 tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- Pinch black pepper
- ¼ tsp ginger powder OR 1/8 tsp grated fresh ginger
- 1-2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup or Lakanto or stevia if you are on a candida diet
- 1-3 tsp coconut oil OR brain octane oil
- 1-2 tbsp organic butter or grass fed ghee
- 1-3 tbsp collagen powder (optional, to add protein)
Quality Makes a Difference
While you can certainly use the turmeric in your spice cupboard for this recipe, I recommend buying a good quality powder that is organic and non-irradiated, as so many spices are these days. A good quality powder will have more active constituents, which increases the health benefits you receive. You can usually find a good quality turmeric powder at your local health food store.
